What is Shadow IT?

Shadow IT is information technology that was improperly vetted for business use without professional input. Often, people at an organization follow the path of least resistance and use a piece of unauthorized software to enhance their work experience or speed up a task. Shadow IT can reveal interesting principles about an organization's information practices and often leads to technical debt.
